Tsingy or Limestone pinnacles formed by erosion. Ankarana Special Reserve. Northern MADAGASCAR
During the Triassic (240-210Ma) the landscape of the island was uplifted and terrestrial gravels and sands were deposited. Then major marine transgression followed, and from this time, until after the demise of the dinosaurs fossiliferous marine limestone sedimentation dominated. These sediments today make up the Tsingy landscape of Madagascr.
