Alma Santas

Freddy Morales dressed as an 'Alma Santa' during the Good Friday celebrations commemorating the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ.
Photographed in the town of La Merced The 'Alma Santas' represent the souls which go to heaven (white hats) or the sinful souls which do not make it to heaven (black hats) These hats are up to 7 meters in height and made of a wooden structure, the weight of which is supported on the shoulders of the wearer. The structure is subsequently wrapped in fabric and decorated with religious effigies. This is a Catholic tradition.
