Patagonian Crested Duck (Lophonetta s. Specularioides)
Steeple Jason Island. FALKLAND ISLANDS.
These ducks are a fairly common marine species. Widely distributed on coasts and particularly prolific in more sheltered bays with extensive shallows and tidal reaches. They forage and dabble feeding on a wide range of marine life. They may form a trio with two males attending one female as they nest close to the shoreline.
RANGE & HABITAT: Breeding resident of the Falklands. They occur in Southern South America. Coastal regions of Tierra del Fuego, southern Chile and Patagonia.
