Child carrying bricks. In areas of Madagascar where the soil is lateritic houses are built from home-made bricks. It is a labour intensive process from digging up surrounding soil, individually moulding them, building kilns and using large quantities of fire wood. Dried bricks are then carried on the heads of usually the women and children to where they are to be used or sold.
