RANGE & HABITAT: Forests, wooded areas and culivated fields of almost the entire Indian sub-continent from the Himalayan foothills south. Plains and locally up to 2000m in the peninsular hills. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
These are one of the most familiar Indian birds as they are as at home in the countryside as in villagess and towns. They are often found in large flocks and can be highly destructive to crops and orchards. They nest in natural hollows in tree trunks, or one evacuated by other birds as well as rock scraps and wllls of buildings - ruined or occupied. Both sexes take care of the young.
